Remembering Uncle Bill

This past Sunday I made the long trip down to Hilton Head, SC to attend my grandmother's (Celia Snow) brothers funeral for my great uncle Bill.  It was nice to see family which I haven't seen in years. The service was brief and wonderful to hear stories of uncle Bill.

Uncle Bill's Obituary

Robert "Bill" William Pollard was born on April 9, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio, to parents Robert Watkins Pollard and Sadie Eleanor McClellan Pollard. He died Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the Fraser Health Center in Hilton Head, SC. Bill was always an active, hardworking, fun loving guy. His first job was selling Liberty Magazines door to door to earn a pair of wooden skis. He moved on to Boy Scouts, achieving Eagle Scout and later becoming an assistant scout troop leader in Riverside, CA, Bryan, OH, and in Hilton Head, SC. He graduated from Lincoln High School, Ferndale, MI, in 1946, where he loved to play football. From there, he went straight into the US Navy V5 flight program. He loved flying Corsairs. Then Bill went to Michigan State University to finish the degree he had started at Marquette University, receiving his engineering degree in 1954. He later received his Master's degree from Case Western in 1959.

In 1950, Bill married Barbara Chambers, also a 1946 Lincoln High School graduate. Then they were off to Parma, OH, where Bill worked for ALCOA for five years. Two children were born before they moved to Adrian, MI, after Bill accepted a job with Bridgeport Brass. When that plant closed down, they were moved to the Warren, OH, plant and had their third and last child. When the children were eight, five and three, Bill took a job in Riverside, CA, as the Chief Building Products Manager with ALCAN Aluminum. While in California, Bill began his lifelong participation with Rotary.

Bill's career then took him to Bryan, OH, where he became President of Bryan Metals, a small specialty brass and copper re-roll mill. In 1985, Bill retired and he and Barb moved to Hilton
Head where they had vacationed with their family since 1976. They had also enjoyed many vacation trips to their condominium on Lake Michigan near Glen Arbor, The Homestead. Barb and Bill enjoyed an active "retirement", including tennis, community volunteer work, fun with friends and family as well Bill's continued work on various boards and committees.

Bill leaves his loving wife Barbara, their three children, William Brant Pollard (wife Mary), Shannon Pollard Easter, and Thad McClellan Pollard; their five grandchildren, Alethea Rothert, Alison Easter, Chelsea, Jessica and Graham Pollard; and their two great-grandchildren, Harmony and Jake Rothert. Bill is also survived by his sister, Celia Snow and her husband and three children, their five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They all have great fun memories to share about Bill.
